Press release from the City of Phoenix:
October 25, 2021 12:00 AM
Every October the AIA (American Institute of Archaeology) and archaeological organizations around the world celebrate International Archaeology Day by presenting archaeological programs and activities for people of all ages and interests. #IAD has been a huge success since it's begun in 2019. This year Pueblo Grande Museum and Archaeological Park participated in #IAD2021 both online and in person! From #IADArtifact of the Day on Instagram to #AskACurator on Twitter, PGM created excitement towards the event with a series of posts and announcements. On October 16, PGM hosted Mudslinging, where staff and volunteers sling mud to stabilize the walls of the platform mound. We hosted SALT (Studies of Ancient Lifeways and Technology) demonstrations, tested out our newest program Backwards Archaeology, and interacted with our expert volunteers at our Artifact Cart. The day was filled if fun and learning! A big thank you for everyone (our guests, volunteers, mudslingers, demonstrators, and staff) for making this an amazing day!
