Here are the top stories today in Atlanta: Atlanta Public School students who get fully vaccinated against COVID-19 at upcoming vaccine events could take home up to $200 in gift cards. What's more, their eligible household family members can receive up to $100. APS, in partnership with Fulton County government, is offering the gift card incentives to the first 100 students and a limited number of eligible family members who complete both shots at vaccine events at Carver and Douglass high schools Oct. 30 and Nov. 20. Vaccine booster doses are not eligible for the Fulton County Board of Health incentives. According to officials, the Molena police officer was working an off-duty parking enforcement job and sitting in his vehicle on Luckie Street when he was approached by the alleged gunman, 25-year-old Jamon Darryl McCall of Lithonia, shortly before 10 p.m. The GBI said the officer was shot in the neck and returned fire, fatally injuring McCall. The officer, whose name has not been released, was hospitalized in stable condition with injuries not considered life-threatening. Coming away with a 6-2 win against the Houston Astros, the Braves will play Game 2 in Houston tonight at 8:09 p.m. Then Games 3, 4 and, if needed, 5 in the best-of-seven-series will be at Truist Park in Atlanta beginning Friday through Sunday. (CNN.com) A man was shot and killed outside a Midtown restaurant Sunday night after an argument over someone leaning on his sports car, according to Atlanta police. The victim, identified by authorities as 23-year-old Andres Munoz of Acworth, was shot once in the chest outside Loca Luna on Amsterdam Avenue around 11:20 p.m., said Atlanta police Maj. D'Andrea Price. Munoz apparently got into a dispute about someone leaning on his vehicle, an orange Jaguar, Price said, which escalated into a fight during which Munoz was shot. Although the shooter has not been identified, Price said witnesses are coming forward and police were working with the restaurant to obtain surveillance footage. Taylor, the second Georgian recently nominated to serve in a key diplomatic post, is active in local Democratic politics, serving on the board of the National Center for Civil and Human Rights and as a former presidential appointee to the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Council. The daughter of a Holocaust survivor, Taylor is also a founding member of the Or Hadash congregation in Sandy Springs. The U.S. Senate must now approve her nomination.
