FAIRFIELD, AL — Fairfield will soon get its first ambulance, after the Fairfield City Council approved a resolution Tuesday night to purchase the vehicle. The total costs to buy and fix up the used ambulance will cost the city $9,500, according to ABC 33/40.
Mayor Eddie Penny told ABC 33/40 that the need for the ambulance comes from slow response times from Jefferson County.
"Now what we plan to provide will be basic transport services and we're gonna look at the fees that are charged for that so we make sure that we're charging citizens exact same thing but it will be basic not advanced," Penny said in the ABC 33/40 report. "In other words they will stabilize the person to get them to the hospital as soon as possible."
