Seeking Keys Player for Soul-Jazz-Funk Band
Meets
Beaverton OR
Description
If you are an aspiring Keys player who draws inspiration from classic soul, funk, and soul-jazz, and if you're looking to get together to learn tunes, have fun, and connect: READ ON! We are a self-described "novice-to-intermediate" "Soul" project with a line up of drums, guitar, bass, and vocals. We're seeking a new keys player who is 1) a solid communicator 2) eager to play music together 3) can commit to regular practice and jamming together and 4) wants to collaborate/ contribute to digging into this kind of music spanning soul, funk, jazz together. As a band, we share and contrast across a number of influences, but all share a love for soul music, both old and new (think: Stax, Mowtown, Hi, Daptone, Colemine, etc.). Songs we're currently working on include tunes by Charles Bradley, Sharon Jones and Dap-Kings, Gil Scott Heron, Curtis Mayfield, Bill Withers, Steely Dan, and Earth Wind and Fire. The hope here is to connect with a keys player to round out the core of the group (with the hope of adding horns and maybe even additional vocals once the instrumentation foundation is solidified). The dream would be to establish a project that is fun and to play out eventually and bring/ share/ celebrate this music with the people of Portland+! So if this post has sparked any interest, reach out and let's connect! 3 Quick disclaimers: 1) As we put ourselves out there, we would just like to say that we are way more interested in playing with people of all skill levels who share the enthusiasm, spirit, AND SOUL for putting a project like this together! So, if you got the time, desire to learn, play, and get into it: let's definitely connect! 2) We practice on the weekends in Beaverton Cedar Hills area (right off 26 @ the Cedar Hills exit/ or Murray exit from the other direction). Right now it has been an every weekend kind of thing, but could be a 2x a month jam to make schedules work, etc. 3) Last thing: In the spirit of complete disclosure and transparency: we have a space to play/ practice in, but as many of us have young kids at home, we'll need you to mask up and be vaccinated to play together. Thanks for understanding!
