Working with “Unlikeable” Clients, Service Termination, and Other Common, but Rarely Discussed, Ethical Concerns
Jeremy Nikel, LCSW and Tina Ryker-Bevans, LCSW
We’ve all had that one client that was just not “likeable”. We all get frustrated when a client is “non-compliant”. We’ve all questioned “When is it appropriate to end services?”. We’ve all had questions on billing, switching therapeutic focus, and defining our scope of practice. Yet, these issues are rarely addressed directly in ethical workshops. This workshop will focus on these and other common concerns, what our professional ethics say about them, and discuss Motivational Interviewing and other techniques to ethically address them.
