Trauma education using Meditation and Symbols, training and experiential workshop for clinicians Course Description: This course is designed to educate clinicians about how trauma works in the brain, and the use of meditation, sand tray, and symbols assist clients in healing past trauma. The basis of the course uses evidenced based therapy modalities and will use a combination of Internal Family Systems, Sand Play therapy, Jungian based philosophy, as well as mindfulness. There is also a combination of lectures and experiential activities throughout the training. Agenda: 8:30-9:00- Arrival- coffee, tea, and pastries available 9:00-10:00- Opening and Introduction to course, Ice breaker 10:00-10:15— Break 10:15-11:15- Presentation to discuss trauma in the brain, how it affects personality development, defense mechanisms, and reactive parts of the human condition. Presentation will include background of meditation, internal family systems and symbol work. 11:15-12:15- Experiential meditation using a guided mindfulness meditation and writing exercise to follow the meditation 12:15-12:45- Lunch (bring your own lunch) 12:45-1:45- Discussion of symbols in the processing of trauma followed by a Sand tray activity using sand boxes and miniatures 1:45-2:00- break 2:00-3:00- Explore the symbols chosen, and discuss the experience with the symbols, sand and meditation. 3:00-3:45- Practical applications in practice 3:45-4:30- Questions and closing remarks **** Coffee, Tea and water will be available throughout the day. Please bring your lunch. Microwave and Refrigeration will be available. We will be following CDC guidelines at the time of the event. Masks are encouraged for both people who are vaccinated and non vaccinated. The training site does have dogs in the space, which will be off the premise during the training, however, just a warning in case there is an allergy concern.
