Decatur Autism Network is hosting a six-week, social skills playdate for children on the spectrum. Space is limited to 8 children ages 5-8. Parents MUST stay. These structured playdates are designed to help children on the spectrum practice important social skills such as reciprocal conversation, collaboration, sharing, asking for help, following steps, and kindness. As parents of a children on the spectrum, we know that the isolation associated with the pandemic has been particularly on children with autism. School-aged children missed a year of practicing their social skills, so we've designed this group to give them extra opportunity, in a safe space, to practice developing those skills. Each session will include a welcoming circle, a collaborative a field day-type activity, and/or an art activity, and a goodbye circle. We know, first hand, how expensive therapies are for children on the spectrum, so all of our social-skills groups are free. However, we are a non-profit and we survive based on donations, so if you are able to donate, your money will go right back into support ing this and other support systems for families, friends, and neighbors on the spectrum and their caregivers. Cost: Free Parents MUST stay, and we recommend bringing a camping chair, in case the benches or pavilion are crowded. We will have a quiet place to take children in case they feel over stimulated.
