Description
An event to promote the community to become foster parents & adopt; especially for unaccompanied minors from Afghanistan coming as refugees! Join us Saturday, November 6th, at 11am for a very informative event. We have three speakers who will present and give you expert answers to all your questions! This info session is collaboratively hosted by Muslim Communities Association of South Florida (MCA), Community Changemakers, Florida Refugee Assistance Committee (FRAC), and the Muslim Women's Organization (MWO). This event is open to all. There are currently at least 150 unaccompanied minor refugees who have arrived to the United States from Afghanistan with no reunification plan. The #UNITEDforMigrants team want's to ensure as many of these children from varying ages match up with families who share their culture and at least their similar values. Catholic Charities is the only organization in Florida who can license people to foster or adopt such youth from an infant age to teens and even sibling groups. We are honored to have the Program Director Monica Farias join to inform us about about this process in Miami-Dade and Broward County. As the majority of these refugee children are Muslim we have also secured an islamic scholar Imam Mufti Sultan Mohiuddin Mohammed. He will speak on the virtues and guidance when fostering or adopting any children locally or those from overseas. While researching and speaking to community leaders we found that there is a low rate of fostering and adoption in our own backyard too! This is why we will also have Joann Pierre , the Recruitment Supervisor from Citrus Family Care Network, speak about the process to become a foster parent and or an adoptive parent in Miami-Dade County. We will also have Shaf Rivey Muhshana who is a muslim licensed level 1 foster parent joining us to share her experience for how the process was for her in Broward through Childnet. Additionally Maria Clara Harrington from Citrus Health Network will be tabling for those who want more information on fostering specifically through the Chance Program in Miami-dade County. Don't miss this exclusive event! Registration is required; please do so as soon as possible so food can be ordered accordingly. Masks and other safety protocol will be required at this in person event hosted at the Islamic Center of Greater Miami. Live streaming options as well as the recording link will be sent to registered guests.
