WAUKESHA, WI — The Waukesha Plan Commission on Wednesday will review final site plans for a proposed renovation and expansion of the Waukesha Civic Theatre, according to online city documents. A $3 million building expansion would give the theater at 270 W. Main St. a new look. The theater in 2020 purchased the former Little Swiss Clock Shop next door. Renovations will add office space on the second floor of the former clock shop building, add a small black-box theater on the first floor and add a large rehearsal and performance space in the front portion of the first floor, according to city documents. The rehearsal space will be visible from the sidewalk and will be designed to open onto the street for outside performances and events. The two buildings will be connected through a shared wall, and the lobby of the existing theater will be redesigned to accommodate the expansion. The front facade of the building is currently brick with a large rectangular section of corrugated metal on the second floor. The renovation would remove the corrugated metal and replace it with a large window open to the rehearsal space below, city documents said. The store's entrance will be replaced with a sliding window panel. The rear of the former clock shop's second story will be raised several feet to allow it to connect to the second-story offices of the main building, city documents said.
