Veterans Package Drive and Program Announced In Waukesha

WAUKESHA, WI — The city of Waukesha will celebrate Veteran's Day with a special recognition program called "Operation Honor: A Salute to Veterans" on Nov. 6, according to the city. A care package drive is scheduled for 4 p.m. for active-duty members in conjunction with Operation Homefront. The project will collect comfort items such as toiletries, snacks, socks, games, cards, letters of support or encouragement and more. A formal program will follow at 4:30 p.m. Both activities will take place at the Schuetze Recreation Center, 1120 Baxter St. The program will include keynote speaker Darcy Clardy, senior director, Region 2, of Operation Homefront, who will be followed by a performance by the 484th Army Band and a free dinner to the first 400 people in attendance, the city said. "I am personally grateful for all of the sacrifices our active-duty members, our Veterans, and their families have made for the freedoms we all enjoy," said Mayor Shawn Reilly in a statement. "Operation Honor is just one way the City stops to say 'thank you' and recognize our citizens who are Veterans." Anyone interested in having a package sent to a loved one overseas can send an email with the service member's full name and full mailing address. A package will be sent from the Waukesha community and Operation Homefront.
