MASSAPEQUA, NY — Due to the growing popularity of the sport, the Town of Oyster Bay is planning to add three new pickleball courts to a Massapequa park. The town is planning to add the courts to the H. Garrick Williams Park in Massapequa, located on Ritter Avenue near County Line Road. "Pickleball continues to be a growing sport in our communities and these courts will provide an even greater opportunity for fans to participate," said Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino. "These three new courts will add yet another great venue for our residents to enjoy all the fun this sport has to offer." Pickleball is played with a wooden paddle and lightweight plastic ball. The sport combines elements of tennis, badminton and ping pong and can include two, three or four players. It shares similarities to other racket sports. The dimensions and layout of the court closely resemble a badminton court, which is considerably smaller than a tennis court, and the rules of the game are somewhat similar to tennis.
