Description
LONG BEACH, NY — The city of Long Beach is planning its fall hydrant flushing starting on Friday, Oct. 29.
The semi-annual flushing is expected to last until Nov. 13.
Scheduled for each night from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., the flushing is done to remove sediments from the system.
Residents and businesses could experience some low pressure and water discoloration, especially when there is flushing in that neighborhood, the city posted on its Facebook page.
The discoloration is from iron that builds up deposits in the water pipes.
While the water remains safe, the city urges people to avoid doing laundry during the flushing times.
Water quality will return to normal once the flushing is completed.
Each day a different location in Long Beach will be impacted by the flushing that will be posted online and social media.
