WOODBRIDGE, VA — An armed robbery was thwarted at a Woodbridge Wawa on Sunday, according to the Prince William County Police Department. After a man took money from a woman and entered her car, bystanders surrounded the vehicle to keep him from leaving. The robbery was reported to police at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 24. The incident occurred in the parking lot of the Wawa located at 2051 Daniel Stuart Square. A victim, who police identified as a 60-year-old woman, told police that as she returned to her vehicle, an unknown man approached her from behind. The man grabbed her purse and demanded her vehicle, the police department said in their incident report. "When the victim refused, the man elbowed her multiple times before pushing her to the ground and brandishing a knife," the police department said. The man, who authorities identified as Gregory James Brown, then entered the vehicle, officers said. However, the suspect was not able to leave the area. Patrons at the Wawa responded by surrounding the vehicle until police arrived. The victim reported money missing from her purse. When authorities searched the man in the vehicle, they found money in the exact same denominations that the victim reported missing. Brown was then arrested and charged with robbery. He is now being held without bond, and his court date is pending. Have a story idea? Email me at [email protected] with tips, questions, comments, or concerns.
