MORRISTOWN, NJ — A domestic incident escalated into a car ablaze, hostage negotiations and an arrest overnight Monday in Morristown, according to the Morris County Prosecutor's Office. The incident required authorities to close off several streets and prompted a lockdown of nearby Morristown Medical Center. Law enforcement responded to Franklin Street for a reported domestic dispute. Investigation revealed that Chancelle Ibin Young assaulted his partner and injured her in the presence of their young child, the prosecutor's office said. When police arrived, they found Young on the street, brandishing a suspected firearm, authorities said. He engaged in "threatening behavior" and set a car on fire, according to the prosecutor's office. Additional officers from several agencies came to the area and secured the scene. They commenced de-escalation techniques, including hostage negotiations. After several tense hours, officers took Young safely into custody. Authorities recovered a firearm. Young, 29, was charged with aggravated arson, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, terroristic threats and endangering the welfare of a child — all second-degree crimes. The Morristown man was also charged with aggravated assault on a domestic violence victim, pointing a firearm at law enforcement and criminal mischief — all third-degree crimes. The hospital lockdown began around 10 p.m. Monday and ended just after midnight, according to an Atlantic Health System spokesperson.
