Mercer County Collects Over 150 Pounds Of Unused & Expired Drugs

MERCER COUNTY, NJ — Over 150 pounds of unused or expired drugs were collected on Saturday in Mercer County, Sheriff Jack Kemler said. Residents disposed of a wide range of old medications, ranging from blood pressure and heart medications to dangerous opiate painkillers including OxyContin, during the Prescription Drug Take-Back Day. "Our goal is to help residents rid their medicine cabinets of painkillers, in addition to other unneeded pills," Kemler said. "By properly disposing of old prescription drugs, we help to prevent accidental use, abuse, and drug-related crimes." The drop-off event, held twice each year by the Sheriff's Office, is a safe and easy way to get rid of old medications. All the drugs collected during the event were turned over to the Mercer County Prosecutor's Office and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and destroyed. Thank you for reading.
