BROOKFIELD, CT — Brookfield residents will head to the polls on Nov. 2 to cast votes for the municipal election. The position of first selectman, selectman, and spots on the boards of education and finance and more are all up for grabs. Polls are open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Nov. 2. Voters who are in line before 8 p.m. will be able to vote even after the deadline passes. You can find your poll location at the Secretary of the State website by inputting your information. You can request an absentee ballot here or you can visit your town clerk's office. All voters are eligible to check the top box that lists "COVID-19" as a reason for requesting an absentee ballot. In Brookfield, Democratic First Selectman Steve Dunn is running for a fourth term against Republican challenger Tara Carr and petitioning candidate Austin Monteiro. For selectman, the Democrats are fielding three-term incumbent Sue Slater, Peg O'Donnell, and the Republicans, Harry Shaker. Voters may select up to four candidates for full-term openings on the Board of Finance. Republicans are fielding Amelia Malanaphy, Andrew Koehm, Glenn Rooney and Daniel Devorsetz. The choices offered by the Democrats are Naheed Quaisar, Alan Walp, Mary Cappiello and Eileen Koch. Two two-year vacancies on the Finance Board also need filling. John Temple and Ricky Ramos are on the ballot for the Democrats, and the Republicans are presenting Brianna Ruocco and Thomas D'Avanzo. Residents may vote for three candidates to fill openings on the Board of Education, but no more than two may be from the same party. The choices are Republicans Sharon Butow, Linda Arment and Joy Greenstein; and Democrats Emma Schweder, Rosa Fernandes and Bunny Tessier. For the open slot on the Board of Assessment Appeals, voters will choose between Democrat Julie Blick and Republican Jeffrey Bronn. Return to Patch for results as they come in. They are Democrats Marc Lowengart, Scott Dale and Jeffrey Kass; and Republicans Linda Taylor, John Mara and Michael Del Valle. Democrats Jennifer Kraemer, Phoebe Holmes and Francis Kwok are vying with Republicans Gary Goetz, Anne Vogel and Darryel Pratt for three full-term Zoning Commission positions. There is also one two-year term position open for which Republican Bishendra Komar and Democrat Mike Lucia are competing. Finally, voters will be choosing three new members of the Zoning Board of Appeals. They are Republicans Karl Hinger, Alan Donnelly and Janet LaForgia; and Democrats Louise Trojanowski-Marconi, Richard Briggs and Elijah Huling III. Connecticut offers Election Day registration, but those who arrive need to be registered by 8 p.m. in order to vote. Unlike previously registered voters, standing in line before 8 p.m. to registrar won't guarantee the ability to vote.
