UPPER ST. CLAIR, PA — Upper St. Clair boys basketball coach Danny Holzer has been named the district's interim athletic director. The school board approved the appointment on Monday.
Holzer will replace Kevin Deitrick, who announced he was leaving earlier this month.
Holzer, an Upper St. Clair social studies teacher for 25 years, will continue to serve as the boys varsity basketball coach.
"Mr. Holzer is an active member of our high school community - both in and outside of the classroom," Superintendent John Rozzo said in a district release. "His knowledge of our students, our district and the greater WPIAL sports community makes him an ideal choice to lead our athletics office at this time."
In 26 seasons as head coach, Holzer has led teams to three WPIAL Championship titles, one WPIAL runner-up finish and eight section titles. His teams have advanced to the playoffs 22 out of the past 26 years.
In 2019, Holzer reached 400 career wins.
Prior to taking the helm at Upper St. Clair, Holzer served as an assistant coach at Duquesne University, California University of Pennsylvania and his alma mater, Thomas Jefferson High School.
In high school, he was a three-year starter and then continued his athletic career at Alliance College before earning his teaching degree from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania.
