JOLIET, IL — A 57-year-old woman who lives in the 800 block of Cora Street remains in the Will County Jail after Joliet police say she attacked a man with a lamp after pointing a gun at him. Friday night's incident at the house of Veronica Powers resulted in charges of domestic battery and aggravated assault, Joliet police said. Officers say the domestic disturbance happened around 6:45 p.m. "During an argument, Powers retrieved a handgun and pointed it at the victim while continuing to yell at him," Joliet police reports show. "Powers struggled with the victim at which time she struck the male on the head with a lamp. The victim escaped from the house and called 911." Officers were able to arrest Powers without any problems and the gun was recovered by police, authorities said. The man Powers attacked was not injured, police said. Powers remained in the Will County Jail on Tuesday, unable to post 10 percent of her $5,000 bail, jail records reflect.
