PORTLAND, OR — Jo Ann Hardesty isn't done. As she approaches the end of her third year on the Portland City Council, she's already eyeing a second term. Hardesty was first elected in 2018, the first Black woman to hold the position. A couple of weeks ago, the Portland Police Bureau completed an internal probe into the leaking of a police report that wrongly implicated Hardesty, a long-time critic of the Police Bureau. The results of the investigation have not yet been released. Meanwhile, her colleague Dan Ryan announced his reelection bid a couple of weeks ago. Ryan was elected in 2020 to fill out the term of Commissioner Nick Fish. He is seeking to have his own full term. Hardesty already has challenges. Vadim Mozyrsky and Rene Gonzalez both created campaign committees and are expected to file with the city in the coming weeks.
