ELMHURST, IL — Elmhurst originally estimated that it would receive $14 million from its base sales tax next year. But after a closer analysis, the city revised that down to $13 million, City Manager Jim Grabowski said Monday. That was in part because of the closure of Altorfer, a Caterpillar dealer at 635 W. Lake St., he said. It was a sales tax generator. Also, Grabowski said, the ups and downs with car dealers are causing the city to be cautious. He said the city is hearing there may be little inventory for the dealers to sell. "We don't know where auto sales are next year," he said. "We don't know how that's going to play out." Grabowski was speaking to the City Council's Finance Committee.
