AUBURN, Wash. — Some restaurants in King County are already losing customers because of the new vaccine verification mandate that took effect Monday The new requirement to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination status took effect Monday and restaurant owners are worried customers might take their business outside of King County. The owners of Garcia's Family Mexican Restaurant and Cantina in Auburn said it is only because of their repeat customers that they survived the pandemic shutdown. Ana Guitron said now they risk losing those regulars over the new King County rule that people prove they've been vaccinated for COVID-19. “They just get upset with us and they say we lost customers,” Guitron said. “It's just upsetting because our loyal customers, they helped us out throughout the whole COVID situation." Pedro Munoz at Bourbon Jacks in Auburn shares similar concerns. “A lot of people, they don't come in because they don't get the vaccine," Munoz said. Central Avenue Pub is seeing similar pushback from some customers. The people who run these businesses say they want to keep people safe but feel they are at a disadvantage given that neighboring counties haven't imposed the same mandate. “Why is it just King, you know?" Guitron said. "Just King. Everybody says, ‘We're going to go to Pierce.’" Business owners do have some options when people can't or won't show proof of vaccination status. A negative COVID-19 test taken in the past 72 hours also works. Take-out or outdoor seating is another option. And while the new mandate may seem like a burden public health officials said the intention is to save lives for the good of the people. In addition to bars and restaurants, King County is requiring people to prove they are vaccinated when entering gyms, movie theaters, concert halls and sports venues. Next will be showing proof of vaccination to enter supermarkets. Control the masses, bend them to your will. Living in a totalitarian society is communism for the good of the people.
