COURSE DESCRIPTION: The purpose of Fire Inspector 1 is to provide fire and emergency services personnel with basic information necessary to meet the job performance requirements. The fire inspector must possess certain knowledge, skills, and abilities and be able to apply them to assigned tasks and duties. Fire Inspector 1 must be able to perform the duties listed:
Prepare correspondence and reports, handle complaints, maintain records, participate in legal proceedings, communicate orally and in writing, interpret codes and standards, perform fire-safety inspections of new and existing structures, recognize problems, make observations, and make the correct decisions, understand building construction types, understand occupancy types, determine occupancy loads, recognize potential hazards, read plans, understand human behavior during fires, understand fire behavior, verify water supply fire flow capacity, understand the operation of fixed fire-suppression, detection and alarm systems.
CURRICULUM: IFSTA Fire Inspection and Code Enforcement, 8th Edition
PRE REQUISITES: ICS 100, 200, and Hazardous Materials Awareness
