Description

WASHINGTON (TND) — A leaked document appears to show the Virginia Department of Education encouraged public schools to "embrace" critical race theory (CRT) while Democrat Terry McAuliffe was governor. Loudoun County Public Schools is currently hosting a lesson plan on its website explicitly teaching “queer theory” and “critical race theory” to kids. McAuliffe, who is running for Virginia governor again this year, recently claimed critical race theory has "never been taught in Virginia," and criticized those concerned about critical race theory for promoting a divisive "dog-whistle." This all began in 2015, when @TerryMcAuliffe was Virginia governor and initiated the first documented statewide Department of Education training program on "critical race theory." Terry McAuliffe claims that critical race theory has "never been taught in Virginia [schools]." But in 2015, when he was last governor, his Department of Education instructed public schools to "embrace critical race theory" in order to "re-engineer attitudes and belief systems." The memo was sent around the same time as the Virginia blackface scandals, which involved Democratic state leaders. Terry McAuliffe claims that critical race theory is “dog whistle” and has “never been taught in Virginia [schools].” But in 2015, when McAuliffe was last governor, the Virginia Department of Education instructed public schools to “embrace critical race theory” in order to “re-engineer attitudes and belief systems.” McAuliffe has called opposition to critical race theory a “right-wing conspiracy” and slandered parents as “racist.” But his own administration was promoting critical race theory in all Virginia public schools.
