To apply, please email resume and cover letter. Thank you. Position Purpose: The First Church Sexton is responsible for the upkeep, maintenance and security of the church building and grounds. They also act as the church representative for late night events and early mornings when no other staff is present, ensuring building users adhere to church policy as decided by the Director of Operations, Facilities Manager, and church ministers. Responsibilities/Duties/Functions/Tasks Cleaning (included but not limited to) sweeping and mopping floors vacuuming of rugs and carpets cleaning and disinfecting restrooms cleaning and disinfecting kitchen dusting and wiping down surfaces Waste Removal removing trash, recycling and composting from waste stations in building and offices and placing them in proper outdoor containers bring recycling toters curbside for pickup Yard Work mowing lawn in spring, summer and fall weed whacking when needed raking in spring and fall light weeding of lawn and gardens Snow Removal remove snow (shoveling and by snowblower) from walkways, parking spaces, sidewalks and other designated areas during and after snow storms Health, Safety, and Security perform security check of building when opening or closing. When closing, ensure all exits are locked and the building is empty(excluding shelter) make small safety repairs (such as replacing a light bulb) when needed inform Facilities Manager, Director of Operations, and/or Senior Minister when larger safety or security concerns are noticed be attentive to who is in the building, and flag any person who may be behaving inappropriately or suspiciously and ask them to leave. If needed, notify the authorities of such a person Hospitality have a welcoming and helpful presence, answer questions and provide directions for church visitors and building users event set up/take down for church events, set up and take down any tables, chairs, coffee/tea, etc. required for non-church events, assist building users in their set up and take down operations when possible Special Position Requirements/Working Conditions Pass CORI/SORI background checks Work Requirements Must be able to lift no more than 50 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carry of objects weighing up to 25 pounds. Ability to go off-site as needed to obtain supplies (i.e. at the hardware store) for the church. Qualifications Previous cleaning or janitorial experience Proven record of reliability and timeliness Ability to thrive in a busy, unpredictable environment Ability to work comfortably with a wide range of personality types Possess initiative and a willingness to “get the job done” while working unsupervised Ability to work as a member of a team Preferences Previous experience working in a church or community center environment
