Description

Cemeteries: History, Preservation, Restoration Leroy Gardner will speak on the history of cemeteries in Georgia, and their preservation, documentation, and restoration. If you are concerned about an endangered cemetery, or own land where a cemetery is present, this presentation will give you the information you need to help preserve these valuable cultural assets. Mr. Gardner has worked with cemeteries in and outside of Georgia and has extensive experience in documenting their history and in grave location. A Q & A session will follow. The meeting is free, and all are welcome! The Genealogical Society of Henry & Clayton Counties, Inc. is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing resources to assist in genealogical research. The society and its Family Research Library are housed in the 1826 home of Andrew McBride, a Revolutionary War Soldier. The house, which is now known as the Brown House, was once a hotel owned by the Brown family and is among the oldest-surviving buildings in Henry County.  It has been on the National Register of Historic Places since 1991.  The Family Research Library is a non-circulating reference library staffed by volunteers and has available over 3,000 books of genealogical interest.
