Description

The Northeast Georgia History Center presents a short film of Charlotte Perkins Gilman's psychological thriller The Yellow Wallpaper. The Northeast Georgia History Center presents a dramatization of Charlotte Perkins Gilman's The Yellow Wallpaper. This psychological thriller from 1892 depicts the now disproven "rest cure" prescribed to "hysterical" women during the 19th and early 20th centuries. Jane, the wife of a physician, is forced to spend weeks away from home at an old house in hopes that she will be cured from her "temporary nervous depression." Without any stimulus from her surroundings, she is drawn to writing in a secret diary about her new fascination: the yellow wallpaper surrounding her in her room. Soon Jane sees more than just the wallpaper. Much more. Join us as we premiere an original short film which dramatizes the narration of Gilman's famous story. The premiere will be followed by an interview with Dr. Jill Galvan who specializes in Victorian Gothic Literature. This event is free to Members of the History Center and $5 for Non-Members. Tickets may be purchased at the door with cash or card. This film does not depict any violence, but may be "over the heads" of children under 10. Brought to you by the Cottrell Digital Studio.
