Description

Join us to hear a selection of sounds of the Sonoran Desert with stories behind the challenges of capturing “Quietude” in our noisy world. The Making of SOUNDS OF THE SONORAN DESERT: A Dusk until Dawn Listening Experience, presented by Sound Recordist-Producer Thomas Wiewandt and Audio Editor Jeffrey Cravath. To avoid heat and drought, most desert animals emerge from hiding during twilight and nighttime hours. What you might not see, you are more likely to hear, IF you can escape background noise that we have become so accustomed to. Rooted in 40+ years of sound recording and field experience by the producer, this 2-CD set with a 16-page listening guide was released this summer. Disc 1 is a 41-minute immersive program with no narration, featuring a monsoon storm and 45 species of animals. Disc 2 is a reference guide for listeners, an index of sound clips paired with the narrated names of animals on Disc 1. For more information, visit Thomas Wiewandt's website. Presentation: 4:00-5:00pm | Signing: 5:00-5:30pm Thomas Wiewandt holds an MS in Zoology, University of Arizona, and a PhD in Ecology & Evolutionary Biology, Cornell University. With a passion for science and art, Thomas has forged a career in natural history media and owns Wild Horizons Productions, a small Tucson business. Sound editor Jeffrey Cravath is a Wild Horizons intern and recent graduate from film school, with a BFA in Animated Arts from Pacific Northwest College of Art in Portland, OR. The Pima County Historic Courthouse is among Tucson’s most beloved landmarks. Designed by architect Roy Place, this iconic Spanish Colonial Revival-styled structure was built in 1929 and remained in service for an 86-year span during which time it served as the backdrop for numerous wedding proceedings and became home to several County departments.
