WILMINGTON, MA — Two new stop signs were installed on Middlesex Avenue at Clark Street Friday, turning the site of multiple recent crashes into a 4-way stop. "In addition to the new stop signs, the Town will be painting new stop bars, refreshing the existing stop bars and crosswalks, installing "stop sign ahead" signs along Middlesex Ave, and will be swapping out the existing flashing yellow overhead warning lights with flashing red," Wilmington police said. The intersection was the site of multiple crashes over the summer, including a July 14 hit-and-run and a July 11 two-vehicle crash. Like this article? Following the crashes, resident Wanda McLaren wrote to the Wilmington Apple calling for the town to take action to change the intersection. In response to the call for action, the town launched a traffic study in August. The town cannot prune the shrubs on the corner, as they are on private property, the police said at the time. "The property owners have been approached about potential pruning of the shrubs and have declined to do so," the police said.
