Description

Learn this simple and satisfying craft - Making cordage (string) from the plants growing around us Did you know you can make beautiful “string” by twisting many of the plants you can find growing around us? Cordage can be used to just tie up small bundles, to tie plants to stakes, and to make bracelets and necklaces. It can be used in nälbinding to make caps, and bags and nets. Thicker cordage can be used in basket making. The only limits are your imagination. And, it’s an easy, soothing pastime. Come and learn! Ages: All welcome. Children 10 and under should attend with an adult (sign up as one person!) Cost: $10 Instructor: Mary Barbosa-Jerez is a knitter, sewer, gardener, sometimes-cook, a writer, fixer-upper, builder of things, including fires. She loves textiles and has been learning to spin during the pandemic. She earns money so she can take care of her pets by working as a librarian. (The cordage in the image above is some she made herself!) Note: Bring along a zip-lock bag and a hand towel so you can take some plant material home with you to keep making cordage!
