SARASOTA, FL — A motorcyclist was killed in a deadly crash involving another vehicle Monday near the intersection of Fruitville Road and Lockwood Ridge Road, Sarasota police said in a news release. Around noon, the motorcycle was traveling west on Fruitville Road at the same time the other vehicle involved in the crash was heading east on the same road. They collided at the intersection, though investigators don't know the reason for the crash, police said. The driver of the motorcycle, a man, died from his injuries. The motorcyclist's name is being withheld while the next of kin is notified, police said. The driver of the vehicle, a woman, stayed on the scene and cooperated with officers. The Sarasota Police Department's traffic unit and criminalistics unit responded to the crash. The intersection was closed for several hours during the investigation, though all lanes have since reopened. The crash remains under investigation, police said.
