NEWTON, MA — Newton's 2021 Municipal Election will be held on Tuesday, November 2. Here's everything you need to know before you head to the polls. Voting The last day to register to vote in Newton's Municipal Election was Wednesday, Oct. 13. Following registration, residents have the option to vote by mail, vote early, vote on Election Day, or request an absentee ballot. To vote by mail, submit an application to the Office of the City Clerk at [email protected] or fax it to 617-796-1214. Residents can also drop off applications via the U.S. Post Office or in person at 1000 Commonwealth Ave. Applications must be received by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 27. Early in-person voting will be offered at Newton City Hall on from Monday, Oct. 25 through Friday, October 29 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 30 from 8:30 a.m. to noon. If you miss early voting, you can still vote on Election Day. On November 2, all polling locations will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. To find your ballot and polling information, click here. To vote absentee, you must be away from Newton on Election Day, have a disability that keeps you from voting at your polling place, or have a religious belief that prevents you from voting at your polling place. To apply for an absentee ballot, submit an application to the Office of the City at the same information noted above by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 27. Contested RacesNewton has a contested mayoral race and four contested City Council races this year, with Kevin Riffe running against incumbent Maria Scibelli Greenberg in Ward 1, James R. Cote running against incumbent Julia Malakie in Ward 3, Debra Waller running against incumbent Bill Humphrey in Ward 5, and Barry Bergman running against incumbent Brenda Noel in Ward 6. In addition, there are three people running for the two Councillor-At-Large positions in Ward 1, Ward 3, and Ward 6. There are also two contested School Committee elections, with Paul F. Levy and Shawn P. Fitzgibbons running in Ward 6 and Valerie Pontiff running against incumbent Kathleen Shields in Ward 7.
