WI Weekly COVID-19 Vaccinations At Lowest Level Since January

MILWAUKEE, WI — Some 17,548 COVID-19 vaccine doses were given to Wisconsin residents in the week of Oct. 17, the lowest weekly number since vaccines became available in January, Wisconsin Department of Health Services data showed Monday. Only 11,183 vaccine doses were given to Wisconsinites in the week of Jan. 13, health services data showed. Between 30,000 to 40,000 doses of vaccines were given out weekly in the last week of September and the first three weeks of October. Some 54.9 percent of Wisconsin residents are fully vaccinated against the coronavirus, health services data showed. The best way to promote vaccine confidence is through trusted messengers in local spaces, health services spokesperson Elizabeth Goodsitt told Patch. "It's about the personal stories, the one-on-one conversations — building on existing relationships with community organizations," she added. Health officials encouraged people to make sure the information they consume and share is accurate, as misinformation surrounding the virus and vaccination is prevalent, Goodsitt said. "The COVID-19 vaccine continues to be the best tool we have to keep Wisconsinites and our communities safe," Goodsitt said. "As the delta variant spreads, we encourage everyone who is eligible to get a COVID-19 vaccine as soon as they are able, because science has proven that vaccines are extremely effective against serious disease, hospitalizations and death." The seven-day average of COVID-19 deaths was 13 deaths per day, health services data showed. People aged 80-89 continued to represent the highest number of deaths from complications related to the coronavirus.
