The Sewing Machine Operator I is responsible for prepping and operating the manual and automated sewing machines and sergers to assemble products. In addition, this position will check product quality on each piece. Operate a single-needle over lock machines in a stand-up sewing position. Use scissors, seam rippers, and measuring devices to assemble and make adjustments to products. Use a variety of sewing tools and equipment to sew all parts within the timeline and quality specifications. Sew cut fabric parts together based on specifications. Sew cording and zippers onto bags and buckets. Inspect the product after it has been finished. Affix all required legal and warning labels. Verify quality of material and identify fabric flaws and sewing flaws. Assist the line in changeovers. Clean machines and work areas as a part of six sigma work environment. Assist with preventative maintenance as needed. Perform other duties as required within the nature and level of work. Qualifications Ability to communicate effectively with others including coworkers, management and maintenance staff. Ability to work in a team-oriented environment. Must be detailed oriented. Ability to operate a single needle and over lock machines. Ability to use computerized equipment in day-to-day operations and have general computer knowledge. Physical Demand Requirements ​​Required to stand, walk or sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
