NEWTOWN, CT — The pedestrian, who was struck by a vehicle early Monday on Interstate 84 between Newtown and Southbury, has died, according to Connecticut State Police.
Samantha Figeroa, 22, of Hartford, had gotten out of her vehicle and was standing in the left lane of the thruway trying to flag down passing vehicles when she was struck by a Mack truck. The truck was driven by a 52-year-old Duluth, Georgia, man.
The crash occurred at about 3:30 a.m. between Exit 11 and Exit 13, and it remains under investigation by state police, reported NBC Connecticut.
Figeroa was taken to St. Mary's Hospital in Waterbury where she was pronounced dead, state police said.
Authorities temporarily shut down the thruway to investigate the crash, but it has since been reopened, reported the News-Times.
