Students move into brand new YES Prep East End campus

(HOUSTON) Teachers and staff welcomed hundreds of students into a brand new YES Prep Public Schools campus in the East End. YES Prep East End Secondary was founded 15 years ago to provide college prep education to families in Houston's East End neighborhood, and as the community has grown, so has the school. The new campus at 8401 Lawndale St. opened Wednesday, Oct. 20, with more than 950 students walking through its doors for the first time. The building includes science and technology laboratories, art and music rooms, a large gym and a community park. The former campus at 8329 Lawndale St. will house YES Prep East End Elementary, opening in August 2022 to serve students as part of the district's ongoing elementary expansion. "We are overjoyed and eager to head into East End's next phase as we expand to meet the community's demand for the highest quality education," said Mark DiBella, CEO of YES Prep Public Schools, which currently serves more than 17,000 students across 23 campuses. YES Prep East End, with 90 percent first-generation college students and an 85 percent economically disadvantaged population, is currently ranked in the top 3 percent of high schools in the nation by US News & World Report.
