The Evansville Vanderburgh school board is expected to consider a new teachers contract Monday evening.
The school corporation says a tentative two-year agreement was reached on Thursday.
It would – in part -- return EVSC teachers to salary increases based on experience.
The agreement would also put starting teacher pay at the statewide $40,000 level recommended by Gov. Eric Holcomb's teacher compensation commission.
If the contract is approved, the new salary range for teachers would be $40,000 to $80,500.
The current salary range is $38,000-$75,000.
State law requires a merit pay system for teachers but school systems -- including the EVSC -- have found a way to do both by creating pay levels for years of experience while requiring teachers to also meet evaluation requirements.
