County Health Officials Report 496 New Cases Of COVID-19, No Additional Deaths

By Editor, Times of San Diego October 25, 2021 San Diego County public health officials reported 496 new cases of COVID-19 and no new deaths Sunday. The new data brought the county's total number of cases to 367,857 since the pandemic began in early 2020. The death toll remained 4,183. Thirteen more patients needed to be admitted to local hospitals for COVID treatment, while three more required intensive care. Meanwhile, vaccines for kids between the ages of 5 and 11 could be available in the first half of November, top U.S. infectious disease expert Anthony Fauci said Sunday. U.S. Food and Drug Administration officials are reviewing the Pfizer/BioNTech application seeking authorization of its 2-dose vaccine for younger children. Its panel of outside advisers are scheduled to weigh in on Tuesday. The FDA typically follows the advice of its panel but is not required to do so. Then, advisers to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will consider recommendations for the vaccine at a meeting on Nov. 2-3, helping to inform a final decision by Director Rochelle Walensky, Reuters contributed to this report.
