Concord Firefighters Rescue Dog From The Merrimack River: Video

CONCORD, NH — Concord fire and rescue teams rescued a dog from the Merrimack River on Monday. Just before 1 p.m., capital region dispatch received a 911 call about a dog stuck in the river near 6 Loudon Road, the Christian Mutual Building. A woman, walking her dog near the river and building grounds, reported the dog was at the edge of the embankment, and then fell in. The dog, however, would not come back out of the river and she could not get down to get the dog. Firefighters put on flotation devices and lowered a ladder down to the bank of the river into the water and assisted the dog back onto dry land. Chief Sean Brown of the Concord Fire Department said one of the firefighters had to "get a good hold on the dog" to get it out because it was a large, Newfoundland-type breed. He said firefighters estimated the dog to be about 130 pounds. "This is another example of the many challenges Concord's firefighters are prepared to respond," Brown said.
