LIBERTYVILLE, IL —The Libertyville Police Department said it is looking for three men who were involved in an alleged scheme last week in which they posed as water inspectors and attempted to rob a house. According to police reports, at approximately 3:37 p.m. on Oct. 18, one of the suspects approached the front door of a home in the 700 block of Ascot Ct., claiming he was there to inspect the water for dangerous bacteria. The man was escorted to the backyard by one of the homeowners. At which point, police said, the two other suspects allegedly entered the home, encountering a second homeowner in a bedroom. The suspects began looking through dresser drawers, prompting the homeowner to scream and call 911. The suspects then exited the home, authorities said. The Police did not say if any items were removed from the house. One suspect is described as heavy-set and approximately 6-feet tall, he reportedly was wearing a reflective safety vest at the time of the alleged incident. The second suspect also is described as heavy-set and approximately 6-feet tall. The third suspect is described as "small," approximately 5-foot-7. The incident remains under investigation, and the LPD asks anyone with information that would help the investigation to call its non-emergency number at 847-362-8310.
