JOLIET, IL — While most of Joliet's residents were trying to get a good night's rest, Joliet police were arresting a 44-year-old Joliet man and 31-year-old Channahon man who were firing a gun into the ground early Sunday morning, according to police.
Officers arrested Eduardo Saenz of Joliet and Jose Garcia of Channahon on criminal charges of reckless conduct, Joliet police announced.
The 1:15 a.m. incident happened in the 1100 block of Nowell Avenue, which is within walking distance to Nowell Park on the city's far east side.
Joliet police cars went to the neighborhood to investigate a call of gunshots.
Jose "Joe" Garcia faces charges of reckless conduct. Mugshot via Joliet police "Officers were able to determine that the shots possibly came from the yard of a residence in the 1100 block Nowell Avenue," police spokesman Dwayne English stated.
Officers spotted Saenz and Garcia both sitting inside a running vehicle, police said.
"Both Saenz and Garcia indicated they had discharged a .40 caliber handgun into the ground," English announced. "Officers recovered the handgun that was used, upon search of the vehicle. Officers also located spent shell casings on the ground around the vehicle."
Garcia and Saenz were booked into custody at the Joliet police station and later released on an I-bond, police indicated.
