Adding an additional recycling cart means there is one more step in sorting your waste but learning what can and can't be put in your organics bin is actually simpler than you might think.
Unlike other forms of recycling, items eligible organics recycling don't change. This means, once you learn which items go in which bin, there isn't much else to learn. Print this guide from Hennepin County and place it on or near your organics bin for easy reference.
Accepted Organics Recycling Items All food Fruits and vegetables Meat, fish and bones Dairy products Eggs and egg shells Pasta, beans and rice Bread and cereal Nuts and shells Certified compostable products Compostable paper and plastic cups, plates, bowls, utensils, and containers Look for the term "compostable" or the BPI logo on certified products.
