WASHINGTON SQUARE PARK, NY — In a change-up from the traditional New York City farmers' market, Greenwich Village's Washington Square Park has turned into an open selling space for marijuana, reports the New York Post. Weed vendors are setting up shop within the famous lower Manhattan park in broad daylight with jars of bud and pre-rolled joints for customers to peruse and pick from. Dealers who gave their names as Ghost, Denny, Certz, and Doe Boyz all spoke to the Post on Sunday as they operated marijuana stands from the bustling park. "When they start giving out the permits, we're gonna open up our dispensary," Doe Boyz told the Post. "It's like we're promoting the brand." In regards to the legality of the Washington Square Park marijuana market, former Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed a bill in March legalizing recreational weed for adults. However, legal sales aren't expected to begin until sometime next year and are illegal until then. The New York Police Department did not immediately respond to the Post's request for comment. You can read the full story about the marijuana vendors in Washington Square Park and see photos of their setups — on the Post's website.
