Pre-Conference and Keynote Speakers: David Hamilton and Paloma Cotton-Herman from Exploration Learning.
Building on our work in recent years to design collaborative, student-centered environments, implement workshop model instruction, advance project-based learning, and incorporate brain-based methodologies, Pine Crest opened three Innovation Labs in the summer of 2015 and extended its computer science curriculum beyond high school to include grades pre-kindergarten through grade eight. Our efforts to bring MakerEd, problem-based learning, and computational thinking to students of all ages have ignited an explosion of engagement, self-directed discovery and deep learning throughout our school community, and we would like to share our discoveries and experiences with you at this year’s Innovation Institute: Making the Future.
In order to create changemakers of tomorrow, schools must empower our faculty to foster a maker mindset within their school communities -- one that promotes risk-taking, creativity, and perseverance so that students’ ideas can grow and positively impact our world! Researchers have discovered that project-based learning is vital for preparing students for the world that awaits them.
