Position Overview: The Mold & Die Technician, operating under the direction of the Production Manager, will be cross-trained in all essential mold shop and other production-oriented job assignments. The purpose of the Mold & Die Technician position is to provide support for the production team. The primary function will be to prepare, assemble, finish, and maintain the production tooling for all production lines. The position schedule is 8:00 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Friday for training, but with some flexibility after training is completed. Essential Duties: • Maintain a high degree of attention and care to product molds and production equipment. • Screen molds with soldering and spot-welding methods. • Drill air vacuum holes in various mold shapes. • Maintain a clean/safe work area. • Assist with mold changes and wash molds as needed. • Weld screens and mold parts for repair. • Inspect mold set-ups or damage and plugged vacuum holes. • Possess a sense of urgency when troubleshooting and solving mold issues. • Maintain the quality of the molds and mold set-ups. • Press screens of simple to complex shapes using pressing dies. • Fit and assemble mold parts. • Sandblast and de-burr product molds and sand castings. • Perform a wide variety of work, such as threading, drilling, reaming, and counterboring. • Works under general supervision from drawings, sketches, and verbal and written instructions. Other Duties: • Know and perform all duties assigned in Western’s Emergency Preparedness Policy. • Report all safety near-miss, incident, and accident occurrences, as well as observed unsafe acts, to your supervisor. • Cross-train in other production functions or tasks as requested or required. • Other duties as assigned. Qualifications: • A high school diploma or equivalent GED is required; higher education or certificates is preferred. • Previous production experience. • Mechanical aptitude; ability to assemble and disassemble parts, work with basic hand tools, and shop equipment. • Thorough, strong attention to detail. • A high degree of manual dexterity to manipulate small objects is required. • Ability to sit at a station for extended periods and complete repetitive tasks. • Ability and willingness to learn and train on more advanced tasks. • Work effectively in a team environment and create effective relationships for problem-solving and positive interactions. • Ability to work and solve issues independently with minimum direction.
