Description
Hello, With a heavy heart, we are looking to re-home our 1-year-old lab/terrier mix dog, Tumnus. He came to us in December 2020, almost four months old. As we've gotten to know him, it is clear that he needs much more room at home to run and play. He has a significant amount of anxiety and at home, can react to outsiders aggressively. Tumnus does very well off-leash in the park with other dogs and people; he is at his happiest. When he is able to move away from something/someone whom he fears, he does well and is easily distracted. We toss his ball and he'll chase it over and over again. He has learned sit, stay, roll over, go inside, get your ball, come, wait, look at me, high five, etc. Smart as a whip. Tumnus was born with a congenital deformity in his front paws, as were his litter mates. His back paws are affected slightly, as well. He gets along just fine on soft ground, but does not like to walk for long on cement or gravel. We and the orthopedic dr have assessed that generally, he does not feel much, if any, physical discomfort on soft ground. We are still searching for the perfect boot design! Again, this is why rural or suburban living would be best for him. We love him very much. We have worked with a trainer all this time and everyone agrees our home is too triggering for him, too many things that he finds upsetting. I believe wholeheartedly that he'll get better regulating his behavior in the right environment. Tumnus would thrive in a home without children (we have three) and with a large yard, so outside of NYC and with another dog. He loves to be outside to walk, run and play tug! He also is great on a hike. True North Rescue is also helping us to re-home him using Petfinder. The fee is negotiable. After talking on the phone, we will travel with him to meet interested parties. Thank you, Alyson
