Interested in getting outdoors and hiking but want to know how to do it safely? On this free, family-friendly hike, your landloper will educate you on the hiking basics while you help preserve this inter-urban trail. Along the hike, we will have an open Q&A about hiking culture and outdoor lifestyles. Get Physical: Recommended skills for this hike: The ability to listen and follow instructions, walk independently or with light assistance with a single point cane or trek-pole, the ability to look for trip hazards, lift feet 3 inches from the ground, move to the side quickly and the ability to not touch or ingest the flora and fauna. ;P DOBRA Trail: Yes. This trail is shared with mountain bikers. We will be walking the opposite direction of the bikers and may have to move quickly towards the side of the trail to allow them the pass. Dogs and kids must be able to follow the landlopers instructions immediately. We will practice before we start the trail!Trash Talk: Explore More encourages cleaning up the trail as we go. A grocery sack will be provided. Glove wearing is welcomed. Anyone who gathers trash will get a prize! Before your Hike: Hydrate, even in cooler temps. If your lips are dry, you need more water. You might also need an electrolyte drink post hike (Gatorade, Propel, Body Armor) so bring one for your car. If you like pickles, pickle juice works well! What to Wear: Comfortable clothes you can move in. This shaded trail is generally cooler than expected. Light jacket recommended in the fall to early spring. Walking or running shoes that are closed toed and closed heel. Tall shocks or long pants to avoid brushes with poison oak. Bug spray recommended. Sunscreen optional (shaded trails with some sunny spots). Baseball cap or other hat is a good idea! What to Bring: 2 bottles or more of water! You might want to carry your water in a backpack to keep your hands free. Backpacks with water bladders welcomed. (Also called camel backs, water bladders are like a giant refillable juice pouch, but for water. Can be purchased at Walmart.) Trek-poles (the adjustable hiking stick thingies, also at Walmart) are encouraged. Gloves for trash collection. You may bring a snack but remember to pick up any trash, including wrapper tops and don't leave anything with viable seeds. Take that apple core out with you!Restrooms: There is a port-a-potty at the trail head or you can stop into the Walgreens, CVS or Kroger at the intersection near the trail before arriving. EVENT OCCURANCE DEPENDS ON THE OPEN/CLOSED STATUS OF THE TRAIL. You will be sent an email if the trail is closed.
