Space Coast - Heroes On the Water - Kiwanis Island Park - 2021 Veterans Day Float The Brevard Veterans Memorial Center will be hosting a Veterans Day event. You are welcome to join the regular festivities, however, if you are interested in joining our Veteran's Day Float, please join us. Happy to serve our Veterans and First Responders (HEROES) in the Brevard County region. Targeted fish are Reds, Snooks, and juvenile tarpon, but there are plenty of other fish in the area. This event will be held at Kiwanis Island Park, Merritt Island, Florida. We will launch from the boat ramp in the front of the park. To he left as soon as you turn into the park. This location is a public launch. Parking is limited so please be considerate of other anglers. Parking will be first come serve. There are more parking spots available in the main area and across the street. Expect to see our Heroes On the Water banner. GETTING THERE: From Interstate 95, take Exit 201, FL-520 E/W King St., (signs for Cocoa Hist Dist/Veterans Mem. Ctr/Merritt Island/Cocoa Beach). Travel for 7.1 miles, just passed the Hooters there is a small bridge, the entrance to Kiwanis Island Park is at the light on the left. The boat launch is just inside to the left, parking is to the right and in the back area. Alternate launch location is in the back section of the park. We will try to update as changes occur. So please monitor the 6-foot rules and minimize the opportunity to be at risk. Events are subject to change based on things out of the Leadership Teams control. Heroes & guests are NOT allowed to be on/in a kayak(s) during the event without a designated HOW guide or required safety equipment. You MUST wear your personal flotation device (PFD) the entire time while you are on/in the kayak. Food and drinks will be provided; however, you are welcome to bring your own snack/food/drinks if you have special needs/preferences. Bring a lawn chair or something to sit on since many of our locations are primitive and may not have a place to sit. As a precaution, we suggest you bring a dry set of clothing, since this is water related event, and we never know about the weather & tides. Please be on time, since we can never tell the weather, or the tides could change our event. PADDLE. FISH.
