Description

SMILING UNDERNEATH: Sew-A-Mask repurposed fabrics for reusable face masks @ KB Farmers Market. Buy one mask and we donate two masks. A Zero Waste Culture is a non-profit organization focused on how each of us can live more sustainably to help mitigate climate change and address inequity, even at times like these. Every Saturday from May 1, 2020, you can find us at our informational tent at the Key Biscayne Farmers Market, where we are currently offering our Sew-A-Mask "Smiling Underneath" Face Masks and all natural hand sanitizer. Sew-A-Mask has a team of dedicated volunteers, as well as women suffering from the economic hardships caused by Covid-19 unemployment, working to satisfy the unmet, urgent community need for face masks - especially for marginalized black and hispanic neighborhoods where people are suffering even more from Coronavirus. We are repurposing donated cotton fabric to provide sustainable face masks, which can be washed and reused multiple times. Just in our fourth week of production, Sew-A-Mask is already sustainably creating over 1,500 masks per week! Our Wonder Women are working tirelessly, in a concentrated effort, learning entrepreneurial skills and sustainable practices for now and the future, while helping tackle a pandemic and climate change. Our goal is to keep paying our mask makers as we add more unemployed women to our Sew-A-Mask program to help them make ends meet. Our masks are donated directly to the most vulnerable, at-risk communities throughout Miami-Dade County, though partnerships with other non-profit working in Allapattah, Little Haiti, Liberty City and Homestead. We have just donated 900 masks to the Homestead Correctional Institution in partnership with LEAP.
