Shorewood Resident Faces Armed Robbery Charges In Joliet

JOLIET, IL — London Stamps, a 22-year-old Shorewood resident, is now living in the Will County Jail, facing a $500,000 bail, after Joliet police arrested him in connection with Friday afternoon's armed robbery outside the McDonald's restaurant at 1515 Jefferson St. Joliet police say Stamps was charged with armed robbery, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and aggravated fleeing/eluding the police. Stamps was booked into the Will County Jail around 4:30 p.m. He lives in the 800 block of Wildflower Drive. Around 1:35 p.m., the 22-year-old victim went to the McDonald's to meet with Stamps and Stamps pulled a gun and demanded the victim's money, authorities said. The victim gave his money to the gunman, Stamps drove away from the McDonald's, police reports show. When the victim called 911, Joliet police canvassed the area looking for Stamps' car. Officers saw Stamps' car heading north along Larkin Avenue, near Glenwood Avenue, but when Joliet squad cars tried to pull him over, Stamps kept on driving, according to police. Stamps hit the gas when he got to Black Road and officers abandoned the chase for safety reasons, police said. That afternoon, Joliet police found Stamps' car abandoned in the 500 block of Walsh Avenue, police reports show. When police canvassed the area, officers found Stamps nearby, and he tried to run away, authorities said. Officers caught him and put him in handcuffs. At the time of his arrest, Stamps had two guns in his possession, a 9mm handgun, a .40 caliber handgun and he had the victim's cash that was taken during the McDonald's armed robbery, Joliet police announced.
