​Earthquake Rattles South Los Angeles County

BOYLE HEIGHTS, CA— A magnitude 3.6 earthquake struck one mile from Boyle Heights, in Southern Los Angeles County. The quake rattled the communities of Maywood and Commerce, according to the United States Geological Survey. The temblor was reported at 7:01 a.m. and struck about five miles from downtown Los Angeles The quake was felt in Maywood and as far away as Santa Monica, Long Beach and the San Fernando and San Gabriel valleys. "What you feel in a small earthquake like this morning depends on how close you are to it," said California seismologist Dr. Lucy Jones. "Because it is 10 miles down, everyone is at least 10 miles from it. The closer you are, the sharper the motion." Lot's of questions about which fault. A small quake only needs a very short fault to happen and that doesn't need to be something you can see at the surface. Some Angelenos reported a shaking sound before feeling the Sunday morning quake, NBC Los Angeles reported. No injuries were reported as a result of today's quake as of 10 a.m. The Los Angeles Fire Department and other law enforcement agencies have not reported any major damage. (USGS)
